The team were overcome without picking up a rubber as Solihull and Shirley fielded some of their best.
Ray, Ben, Ka, and Oli knew they faced a massive task when they saw the team that the opposition had brought. Amongst their ranks were a welsh singles champion, and former University of Birmingham 1st team player. Ka and Oli put in a decent performance in the first game, and although there was only going to be one winner, 21-10 and 21-12 against Bears did flatter the opponents. Ben and Ray stepped up next, playing together for the third match in a row. They gave it their best, but could only muster 16 and 19 in their first game, then 14 and 15 in their seconds despite playing some nice badminton. Ka and Oli's final game was a great game to watch - fast paced with incredible defending and some devastating signature smashes from Oli in particular. Still though, it wasn't enough against players of this quality, as Bears lost to 17 and 18. Finally, in the split Ben and Oli played near their best, managing to take a game off Solihull, but went on to lose it in three. Solihull and Shirley finished the rout with a 21-15, 21-11 win over Ray and Ka.
Overall, although Bears were comprehensively beaten on this occasion, the four were proud of how they all played and how close they pushed players of that calibre in at least some of the games. Special mention goes out to Oli who still managed to smash like that despite being dosed up on painkillers having picked up a minor injury the day before playing for Worcestershire.
